Helping your child with tests

You can help your child do his or her best on tests by doing the following:

1) School attendance is important so your child has the needed skills to be successful in school and on tests.

2) Show your child that you are interested in their school work and in the results on the tests taken in school.

3) Provide a quiet place at home for the child to study and to do homework assignments this will reinforce what the child is learning at school.

4) Work on your child's reading skills.  Good reading skills are important to success in school and to do well on tests.

5) Work with your child's teacher to see what your child's strengths and challenges are.

6) Ask your child's teacher about any upcoming quiz or tests as well as know what is required on the State Achievement tests.  Also know how the test results will be used to help your child succeed.

7) Don't judge your child's abilities and don't let others judge your child's abilities based on a single test score.  Student success should not be based solely on test results, many factors determine student achievement.

Always encourage your child to do his or her best on tests.

Celebrate accomplishments of all sizes!
